Family’s Heartfelt Tribute to ‘Incredible’ Young Man Lost in Tragic Crash

The family of 22-year-old Jet Thomas-Day from Weymouth have shared a deeply touching tribute following his tragic death in a motorbike crash over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Jet, affectionately known as “Boo,” was riding his red Benelli through Crossways village near Dorchester, Dorset, on Saturday morning, August 23, when he collided with a white Vauxhall Corsa around 11:10 am. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Remembered as a humble and kind soul, Jet’s family described him as “absolutely incredible” and spoke of their heartbreak. “We are utterly shattered,” they said. “Jet’s passing has devastated not only our family but the wider community — his impact extended far beyond those who knew him personally.”

Jet was a dedicated athlete with an impressive background in martial arts, holding a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and a brown belt in Judo. He trained at Ippon in Bournemouth, coached at Weymouth BJJ, and competed nationally for eight years, with many goals still ahead of him.

Beyond martial arts, Jet excelled in numerous sports such as water polo, rugby, sailing, climbing, Muay Thai, and snowboarding. Yet, he also embraced quieter passions including reading, anime, photography, chess, and crocheting, showing an insatiable love of learning.

His family described Jet’s magnetic personality: “He was humble, empathetic, and genuinely made everyone feel special. Jet balanced a wisdom beyond his years with a playful, joyful spirit. Though physically imposing, he had the gentlest soul.”

Family was everything to Jet. As part of a close-knit family of five, he was not only their beloved son and brother but their best friend. “Losing him so young, with all the love and passion he offered, is a profound tragedy,” his family shared. “It’s been an honor to be his mother, father, brother, and sister. We are proud to call him ours and will never fill the void his loss has left. Ohana — family means no one gets left behind.”
