Family-Run Bakery Celebrated for Doughnuts Opens New Café in Bath

Pipp & Co, an artisanal bakery with a devoted following across the West Country, has opened its first store in Bath this week. The family-run bakery, already popular in Bristol and Swindon, welcomed its new customers on Tuesday, 18 August, bringing its signature sweet treats to the city centre.

Known for its extensive array of baked goods, Pipp & Co offers a tempting variety including cinnamon rolls, linseed buns, strawberry cheesecake doughnuts, and butterscotch and pecan knots. The bakery’s commitment to quality and craft has earned it a loyal customer base.

A spokesperson for Pipp & Co expressed their enthusiasm about the opening: “We’re delighted to be bringing our store to Bath and can’t wait to welcome you through the doors. Whether you’re a long-time customer or discovering us for the first time, we’d love for you to come along, say hello and be part of this exciting new chapter. Keep an eye out for more news to come!”

The new retail outlet is located on New Street, in a unit formerly occupied by Silcox Coffee. Silcox Coffee, which began trading in 2024, announced its closure in May citing challenges such as high business rates and VAT. At that time, a company representative reflected, “Unfortunately sometimes businesses don’t survive, even when you try your best. Business rates are too high. VAT in the UK is too high. However, we made some memories and friends along the way, with lots of proud moments. We just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone who supported us through these last two years, from the bottom of our hearts we appreciate each and every one of you.”

Following a period when the unit remained vacant over the summer, Pipp & Co stepped in to bring new life to the premises earlier this week.

The bakery originated in Swindon and was acquired by Mario and Betina Evangelista in 2015. At the time of their purchase, the business was producing fewer than 3,000 doughnuts weekly; by 2024, this figure had grown to some 20,000 doughnuts per week.

Pipp & Co’s Bristol store, which opened in 2024, was their first café location. The Bath café marks their second, expanding the bakery’s presence within the region. Visitors to the New Street store can enjoy a sit-down café experience, and the business also offers online delivery options for added convenience.

In addition to their retail shops, customers can pre-order baked goods for collection at their Swindon industrial estate bakery. Pipp & Co’s products are also available at various markets and through other cafés.

The Bath outlet operates Monday to Friday from 7.30am until 6pm, inviting both loyal patrons and new customers to savour their renowned artisanal treats.
