The family of John Lyttle, a cyclist who tragically died following a collision with a van in Wiltshire, have paid heartfelt tribute to his adventurous nature and selfless generosity, highlighting how his organ donation saved three lives.
John, aged 67, from Bradford-on-Avon, sustained serious injuries in the accident on July 1 while cycling in Atworth. After battling in hospital for nine days and marking his 67th birthday, he passed away on July 10.
Remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and pillar of his community, John’s family described him as a man full of warmth, kindness, and boundless energy. They said, “John was deeply adventurous and kind-hearted. He was not only a devoted family man but also a friend and supporter to many.”

An active outdoor enthusiast, John embraced life to the fullest — cycling hundreds of miles each month, riding his motorbike freely on open roads, climbing mountains, and attending live music events. His passion for exploration took him across the UK and abroad.
John also dedicated much of his career to the medical field and was an active member of his local church. His faith motivated him to volunteer regularly, including helping feed the homeless in nearby Trowbridge.
Reflecting on his untimely passing, the family said, “John fought with courage but was taken from us far too soon. His loss leaves a profound void and a reminder to cherish every moment with loved ones.”
In a powerful final gesture of kindness, John was an organ donor. On the morning he passed, three families’ lives were forever changed thanks to the gift of his organs. His family expressed pride and comfort in this lasting legacy of generosity.
They also expressed heartfelt thanks to the bystanders who assisted immediately after the collision, the Wiltshire Air Ambulance crew, and the dedicated staff at Southmead Hospital for their life-saving efforts.
The tribute ended with a poignant message: “John’s adventurous spirit and giant heart live on in our memories. As we grieve, we will honor him by embracing life and love just as he did. Rest in peace, John.”
