This August, families are invited to journey across the globe without leaving Bristol at the National Trust’s Tyntesfield estate. The ‘Around the World in 80 Plays’ event offers an exciting, educational, and playful exploration of the world’s diverse cultures throughout the summer holidays.
Every two weeks, visitors can delve into a new continent—starting with Europe and Africa, followed by Asia and Oceania, and concluding with the Americas. The play areas are designed to inspire curiosity and imagination, featuring colorful hot air balloons, vintage travel props, and festive bunting that set the mood for adventure.
Children and adults alike can enjoy giant games such as The Floor is Lava, chess, and Jenga in an immersive environment. Three themed tents provide even more opportunities for discovery: traditional games from every continent, a variety of musical instruments from around the world, and engaging weekly storytelling sessions hosted by The Story Cellar, designed to spark creativity and wonder.

The experience also includes photo moments with hot air balloon and passport-themed backdrops, a global tree trail spotter sheet in the arboretum, and travel-inspired decorations scattered throughout the estate, making every corner a new discovery.
Ally Roe-Mottershead, programming and partnerships manager at Tyntesfield, shares, “This summer, we’re inviting families to let their imaginations take flight. With our three interactive tents and ever-changing activities, ‘Around the World in 80 Plays’ encourages movement, creativity, and shared discovery.”
She adds, “It’s truly special to see both children and adults light up as they explore new cultures together. We can’t wait to welcome families to join in the fun and create unforgettable summer memories.”
The Summer of Play: Around the World in 80 Plays runs daily until 31 August. Normal admission charges apply, with free entry for National Trust members. No booking is required. The event is proudly sponsored by Starling Bank and supported by Sport England.
