A comprehensive programme of roadworks is set to commence in Worle, with work beginning on Monday, 5 October and expected to continue until spring next year. The initiative includes the introduction of a 20mph speed limit on Worle High Street and improvements aimed at enhancing safety and accessibility.
The redevelopment plans comprise the installation of new pedestrian crossings, the addition of bus shelters featuring increased seating and green roofs, pavement resurfacing, and pavement widening to improve pedestrian movement.
Councillor Hugh Maylan, cabinet member for highways and transport at North Somerset Council, commented: “These changes have been shaped directly by community feedback, reflecting what residents and businesses have told us matters most, from safety and accessibility to the look and feel of the area. It’s about making changes that respond to how people use the High Street every day.”

In addition to the speed limit changes, traffic flow alterations will be implemented. The Scaurs will become one-way northbound, while Ebdon Road will be designated one-way southbound. Enhancements for cyclists and pedestrians are also planned, including new seating, planting, and cycle parking facilities at The Maltings.
Initial works have already begun at the junctions of Nutwell Road, Greenwood Road, and Martins Grove, with those particular improvements anticipated to be completed during the October half-term.
These developments form part of a broader Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP), receiving funding from central government to enhance local bus services.
North Somerset Council encourages residents with queries regarding the project to visit the contractor’s drop-in centre near the junction of Queensway and Walford Avenue, open every Wednesday from 8am to 4pm.
