Exploring Bath: Somerset’s Rising Star in UK Tourism

From the moment you step into Bath, Somerset, it feels like a journey back in time. This Georgian city is renowned for its stunning architecture, rich history, and vibrant cultural scene, making it one of the UK’s most beautiful destinations. My recent visit reinforced why Bath continues to enchant visitors, combining the allure of ancient Roman baths with modern attractions like charming shops, inviting pubs, and excellent dining options.

During my overnight stay at Hampton by Hilton Bath City, I experienced the perfect blend of comfort and convenience. Although my visit was brief, Bath’s timeless elegance made a lasting impression—especially as I live nearby in Devon and have returned several times. The city has a distinct, refined atmosphere and even its local accent feels unique compared to nearby Bristol.

A highlight was dining at Ponte Vecchio, an Italian restaurant offering delicious dishes and great ambiance, ideal after sightseeing and exploring the city streets.

Bath’s appeal as a tourist hotspot is longstanding, thanks to its Roman Baths, museums, and heritage sites. However, recent television successes are shining an even brighter spotlight on the city. Bath has served as a breathtaking backdrop for popular Netflix and BBC series such as “Bridgerton” and the Agatha Christie adaptation “Seven Dials,” drawing an influx of fans eager to walk in the footsteps of their favourite characters.

Scenes from “Bridgerton” showcase iconic locations like No.1 Royal Crescent—the beautifully preserved Georgian townhouse transformed into a museum allowing visitors to experience life as the Featherington family once did. Numerous Bridgerton fans and history lovers alike flock here to soak up the magnificent architecture and period atmosphere that radiates throughout this crescent-shaped street.

“Seven Dials” fans will enjoy spotting famous filming spots such as the honey-hued North Parade Buildings and Great Pulteney Street, home to thrilling car chase sequences. Abbey Green’s cobbled square, featured prominently in both series, also beckons as a must-see for visitors. The Holbourne Museum offers a glimpse of Lady Danbury’s elegant, fictional abode, with grand gardens and a stately exterior that bring the show to life.

For those inspired to extend their visit, nearby countryside lodgings provide cozy getaways just a short drive from Bath. Stunning timber-framed retreats like Midnight Moon and The Barn in Wiltshire allow visitors to relax amid nature while staying close to Bath’s cinematic and historic treasures.

With its blend of rich heritage, cinematic fame, and welcoming atmosphere, Bath is poised to become the UK’s next major tourism destination in 2026. Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a fan of period dramas, or simply seeking a picturesque escape, Bath’s charm is irresistible.
