This summer, swimmers in Somerset have a unique opportunity to indulge in late-night swims at Shepton Mallet Lido, timed perfectly with the full moon. From May through September, the outdoor pool will extend its hours during full moon evenings, inviting locals and visitors alike to enjoy a serene and magical swim beneath the moonlight.
Having reopened on May 3, Shepton Mallet Lido is adding a special series of full moon swims to its schedule. Fusion Lifestyle, the team managing the pool, shared: “Shepton Mallet has kicked off Lido season, and this year we’re excited to introduce full moon swims—a tranquil way for the community to connect with nature and unwind by swimming under the gentle glow of the moon."
The full moon’s impact on human sleep patterns has long been a subject of fascination, with studies indicating it might disrupt the body’s natural circadian rhythms. Instead of battling restless nights, the Lido encourages swimmers to embrace the nocturnal energy through a refreshing and relaxing dip.

Tessa Munt, MP for Wells and Mendip Hills, visited the site to witness the Lido’s accessible facilities and the vibrant community atmosphere. She remarked, “Spaces like Shepton Mallet Lido are vital for keeping communities healthy, connected, and thriving. It’s more than just swimming—it’s about providing access to outdoor exercise, fresh air, and fostering community spirit. I’m delighted to join the celebration and support what this pool means to our town.”
Late-night sessions will be held on each full moon from May through September. Those interested in taking part can book their spot through the Lido’s official website and experience the unique allure of swimming by moonlight.
