Expect Sizzling Temperatures in Somerset This Week

Get ready to soak up the sunshine and embrace the heat as Somerset gears up for scorching temperatures this week. With the mercury on the rise, the upcoming week is anticipated to be the warmest of the year, with expected temperatures surpassing the typical April averages.

Starting from today until the month’s end, temperatures are set to range between 22C and 25C. According to the Met Office, the onset of May could bring even higher temperatures, potentially hitting 25C in parts of the county, even exceeding the heat in the popular Greek holiday destination, Crete.

The UK is expected to experience widespread sunshine, with temperatures peaking at around 29C in some regions – almost double the usual end-of-April average of 16C, as reported by BristolLive.

While the days will be sweltering, overnight temperatures will cool down to the low teens, ensuring relatively comfortable sleeping conditions, as stated by Met Office meteorologist Craig Snell.

Snell remarked, “We’re certainly on track to see the warmest spell of the year so far. The warm trend has already started now across southern areas. At the moment we’ve got up to 21.5C in central London and Hull. As we go through the next few days we will see the warm spell continue.”

Though some areas may approach what the Met Office defines as a heatwave, it is unlikely to be widespread, Snell added.

The Met Office defines a heatwave as three consecutive days of temperatures exceeding the “heatwave threshold”, varying by region.

For most of the UK, the threshold is 25C, with slightly higher temperatures in the south and east, and up to 28C in London. Bristol’s threshold is 27C.

As the week progresses, temperatures will start to regress toward the seasonal average, with highs in the late teens in the southern regions and mid-teens up north, according to Snell.

Weather Forecast for Today:

Early morning mist and fog are expected to dissipate, leaving behind a mainly dry and pleasant day with ample sunshine, except for some patchy cloud in the far southwest. Temperatures are anticipated to exceed those of Sunday, with a maximum of 23°C.

Tonight, clear skies will bring evening sunshine with some frost-free areas, while mist and shallow fog may form in rural spots by dawn, with a minimum temperature of 5°C.

Tuesday’s forecast includes another warm and sunny day after the early morning fog clears, with light winds, although it may become breezier along the south coast. A maximum temperature of 25°C is expected.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

The week is projected to stay warm with gentle winds and abundant sunshine as high pressure continues to dominate. While winds will generally remain light, some coastal areas might experience occasional gusts. A slight cool-down is expected on Friday.
