Exact Day Somerset Will Enjoy 22°C Sunshine During Half Term

Somerset is set to experience a brief surge in temperatures this week, with highs reaching a pleasant 22°C ahead of the Half Term break. According to the Met Office, much of the region, including key towns such as Taunton and Frome, will bask in mid-week warmth before a sharp cooling trend takes hold.

On Tuesday, Taunton will see temperatures climb to 21°C, rising slightly to 22°C on Wednesday. Nearby Frome and Glastonbury will also enjoy similar conditions, with highs around 21°C on both days. However, this warm spell is short-lived, as temperatures are expected to fall dramatically by the weekend, dipping to around 12°C.

This warm interlude follows a turbulent Easter weekend dominated by Storm Dave, which brought violent 70mph winds to northern England, Scotland, and Wales. Now, with Storm Dave moving away, a high-pressure system is ushering in warmer air from continental Europe, leading to the unseasonably warm weather.

A Met Office spokesperson explained: “As Storm Dave has passed, high pressure is building behind it, pulling in warmer southern air. During this transitional season, conditions can change rapidly, even from day to day.”

Yet, the spokesperson also cautioned that Thursday will bring a notable temperature drop, with highs between 10°C and 13°C. “Wind direction plays a key role this time of year,” they said. “While the current southerly winds are bringing temperatures into the mid-20s in some areas, a shift will return weather to more typical seasonal levels, accompanied by rain and showers.”

Over the weekend, temperatures are expected to settle between 10°C in northern regions and 14°C in the south, marking a return to more average springtime conditions. Although the warmer weather has arrived slightly ahead of schedule, the Met Office emphasized that these highs are not unusual for this period.
