Karl Lindsay, the former chief executive of Taunton Town Football Club, has denied charges of conspiring to rape and drug a woman alongside 12 other men, including the woman’s husband. Lindsay, 55, from Taunton, resigned from his position at the non-league football club last year. The club announced his resignation in November but offered no further comment.
The woman’s husband, a man in his 60s from Stockport, Greater Manchester, is due to stand trial at Minshull Street Crown Court in Manchester starting Tuesday. He faces multiple allegations including drugging his wife for sexual purposes between 2004 and 2025. His identity is protected by a court order to prevent identifying the victim.
He has pleaded not guilty to all charges, including conspiracy with others to drug and rape his wife between 2018 and 2025. Alongside him, twelve other men are also facing trial on multiple sexual offence charges.

The accused include:
- Karl Lindsay, 55, Taunton, denies conspiracy to rape, conspiracy to assault by penetration, and conspiracy to administer a substance with intent.
- David Graves, 59, Ilkeston, Derbyshire, denies the same charges.
- Daniel Rayner, 42, Whitstable, Kent, also denies these charges.
- Graham Brougham, 73, Northwich, Cheshire, has pleaded not guilty to rape, conspiracy to rape, and conspiracy to assault by penetration.
- Philip Wild, 58, Stockport, denies attempted rape, assault by penetration, sexual assault, and conspiracy to rape and assault by penetration.
- Mohammed Sabir, 28, Stockport, denies three counts of rape, conspiracy to rape, and conspiracy to assault by penetration.
- Jonathan Kirk, 43, Stockport, denies rape, conspiracy to rape, and conspiracy to assault by penetration.
- Sean Peers, 38, Stockport, denies assault by penetration and conspiracy to assault by penetration.
- Jordan Wallace, 31, Wythenshawe, Manchester, denies rape, attempted rape, and conspiracy to rape.
- Alan Keelan, 42, Wythenshawe, and Robert Stewart, 70, Stockport, both deny two counts of rape and conspiracy to rape.
- Richard Townsend, 37, Heywood, Greater Manchester, denies assault by penetration and conspiracy to assault by penetration.
The husband denies 11 counts of rape, two counts of attempted rape, seven counts of assault by penetration, four counts of sexual assault, four counts of conspiracy to rape, three counts of conspiracy to assault by penetration, one count of conspiracy to administer a substance with intent, and one count of administering a substance with intent.
This significant trial is expected to last approximately 12 weeks.
