Karl Lindsay, former chief executive of Taunton Town Football Club, is one of thirteen men scheduled for trial over allegations of participating in a disturbing drug-facilitated sexual abuse conspiracy. The case, considered Britain’s largest of its kind, involves a husband accused of drugging his wife and orchestrating her repeated rape by multiple men over two decades.
Revealed following the lifting of reporting restrictions on June 26, the investigation centers on a man in his 60s from Stockport, the principal suspect and husband of the sole victim, whose identity remains protected. The husband has admitted to multiple charges, including five counts of rape, three counts of sexual assault, six counts of assault by penetration, and sharing intimate images without consent. However, he denies the charge of drugging his wife. He faces a total of 48 charges, with 15 guilty pleas entered and the remainder contested.
Among the 14 men charged, 13 will stand trial in September. Most are from Greater Manchester, with others from Kent, Scotland, and Somerset. Lindsay, 55, residing in Taunton, faces charges of conspiracy to rape, conspiracy to commit assault by penetration, and conspiracy to administer a substance with intent. He denies all allegations against him.

Another defendant, Keith Fotheringham, 59, from Dundee, has pleaded guilty to similar charges and awaits sentencing.
Other defendants charged include David Rayner, Graham Brougham, Philip Wild, Mohammed Sabir, Jonathan Kirk, Sean Peers, Jordan Wallace, Alan Keelan, Richard Townsend, Robert Stewart, and David Graves — all of whom deny the charges.
The multifaceted investigation highlights the grave concerns surrounding drug-facilitated abuse and the enduring impact on victims. The upcoming trial will seek to deliver justice in a case spanning 20 years of alleged criminal activity affecting a single victim.
