Ex-Police Officer Sentenced for Breaching Sexual Harm Prevention Order

Callum Denley, a 20-year-old ex-police officer from Malmesbury, has been sentenced after refusing to surrender his mobile phone for inspection, violating the terms of his Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO). Denley, who previously served with Wiltshire Police, was arrested and brought before Swindon Crown Court.

Denley’s refusal to hand over his phone obstructed an ongoing investigation, prompting his arrest and remand in custody. During the hearing on August 22, he received a 12-month custodial sentence, suspended for 24 months, along with 200 hours of unpaid work. Additionally, Denley is required to complete 26 sessions of the accredited Building Better Relations programme.

Previously, Denley admitted to making indecent images of children, including Category A images—the most severe classification—as well as possession of extreme and prohibited images. Upon learning of these offenses, Wiltshire Police immediately suspended him, leading to his resignation.

Earlier this year, Denley was handed a 10-month suspended prison sentence and a five-year SHPO. Initial triage of his phone revealed no illegal images, but a full forensic examination is still pending. Judge Jason Taylor warned Denley that should the full forensic analysis uncover any illicit material, he would face immediate imprisonment.
