A former Dorset Police officer, James McClements, has been found guilty of gross misconduct for pursuing an inappropriate sexual relationship with a domestic violence victim, severely breaching professional trust and ethical standards.
Following his resignation from the force, PC McClements was charged with misconduct in public office and pleaded guilty on April 10. A misconduct panel convened at Dorset Police Headquarters on May 19 confirmed that his behaviour contravened multiple standards of professional conduct, including discreditable conduct, abuse of authority, and failure to show respect and courtesy.
The panel concluded that had McClements remained in service, he would have been dismissed. Consequently, he has now been placed on the police barred list, ensuring he cannot return to policing.

Deputy Chief Constable Rachel Farrell emphasized the gravity of the officer’s actions, stating, “This former officer pursued a sexual relationship with a vulnerable woman who was relying on the police for protection, and in doing so, betrayed her trust.” She reassured the public that such behaviour is unacceptable and does not reflect the values of Dorset Police.
The force remains committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity and encourages anyone with concerns about police conduct to come forward. The Professional Standards Department conducted a thorough investigation to hold McClements accountable and safeguard the community from similar breaches of trust.
