This summer, many of these areas have earned the prestigious Green Flag Award, a hallmark of quality and care given annually by Keep Britain Tidy—similar to the Blue Flag for beaches.

With the holidays underway, we present a detailed, area-by-area list of all Somerset’s Green Flag winners announced earlier this month. Each entry includes highlights praised by recent visitors, intended to help you plan an ideal outing.

Federica Smith-Roberts, Somerset Council’s lead member for communities, environment and climate change, expressed pride in the county’s success: “We are delighted that Chard Reservoir Local Nature Reserve and Ham Hill Country Park have once again been recognised with Green Flag Awards. These beloved green spaces are real assets to Somerset, offering both residents and visitors places to enjoy nature, heritage, and the outdoors. This award reflects the dedication of our teams, volunteers, and partners. Congratulations also to the other winners across the county, whose hard work shines through in their well-maintained sites.”

Somerset boasts 26 Green Flag sites, led by Bath with seven, followed by Taunton with five, and North Somerset with four. One unexpected winner is Clark’s Village in Street, known primarily as a shopping outlet, honoured for its innovative eco-planting initiative that promotes biodiversity.

Beechen Cliff (Bath): Perched high with sweeping panoramic views over the city, it features tree-lined paths, grassy slopes, and picnic areas. Visitors praise its breathtaking vistas and tranquil ambiance perfect for walks and picnics.
