‘Every Player Must Be a Leader’ for Yeovil Town to Climb the Table

New Yeovil Town signing Ryan Jones believes that for the Glovers to rise up the league standings this season, every player must take on a leadership role on the pitch.

Jones joined the club just two weeks ago from Aldershot Town, with the transfer involving an undisclosed five-figure fee. He has committed to Yeovil Town until the end of the 2027/28 season. Although he was set to face his former side last Tuesday, the fixture was postponed due to adverse weather.

Despite being a new arrival, Jones is already impressed by the quality within the squad. However, he emphasizes that success depends on all players stepping up as leaders during matches to secure crucial wins.

Speaking ahead of the postponed fixture against Woking, Jones stated: “We’re still very positive. We all know we’re a good group with the talent to win games where maybe we’ve only managed a point or missed out on three. It’s about stepping up on the day and delivering when it counts.

“As players, we can sort that out on the pitch. The manager has his system, and we’re all buying into it. We’re starting to see glimpses of how it can work. Now, it’s about putting together a full 90-minute performance.

“Everyone has to lead on the field. We won’t rely on just one player to make things happen. While some players are more creative, leadership is a responsibility shared by all when on the pitch.”

Currently 14th in the league with nine wins from 27 matches, Yeovil Town sit six points clear of the relegation zone and are 16 points shy of the play-off positions. With 19 games remaining, Jones underlines the importance of focusing on each match individually and continuing to improve through training.

He added: “We need to get back to training, work on areas we can improve, and trust in our abilities. It’s about refining patterns of play and finding ways to break down the opposition.

“It may sound like a cliché, but we have to take it one game at a time. Every match presents a different challenge, so we’ll focus on each one as it comes and see where we stand in the end.”
