Tunnels Beaches, a renowned private beach in Ilfracombe, Devon, was evacuated and closed following a landslide. The incident occurred on April 16, when rocks fell onto the sands, prompting an emergency evacuation.
The owner, Jamie McLintock, announced the closure on Facebook, citing the risk of rock falls at the top of the Ladies' beach. While day visitors and season ticket holders are affected, the accommodation services at Tunnels Beaches will operate as usual throughout the 2025 season.
Aside from being a natural attraction, Tunnels Beaches also serves as a wedding destination, managed by Jamie and Zoe McLintock. Despite the closure of the beach, wedding plans and overnight stays will continue without disruptions, assured Jamie.

Amid some negative comments on social media, Jamie emphasized that the decision was solely due to safety concerns and not influenced by the wedding business. He refuted any claims of prioritizing profits over people’s safety, emphasizing that staff are not significantly affected and that safety remains a top priority.
Tunnels Beaches, with its Victorian-era tunnels and unique tidal pools, has been a prominent landmark in Ilfracombe since 1823, attracting visitors with its historical charm and natural beauty.
