Sonali Shah, the well-known presenter of BBC’s Escape to the Country, is marking an impressive 12 years on the show. Since joining the programme in 2014, Sonali has become a familiar face to viewers, showcasing a wide variety of properties across the UK and helping hopeful buyers find their dream rural homes.
At 45, Sonali reveals she has no plans to leave television anytime soon, describing her role as “the best job in telly.” Reflecting on her long tenure, she shares, “This month marks 12 years since I started on the show. I never imagined I would be here for so long. It’s rare to be in one job for over a decade, but Escape to the Country feels just right.”
She credits the show’s lasting appeal not only to the British public but also to an enthusiastic international audience. “The programme is a comfort for many—always there and beloved,” Sonali explains. “I didn’t realize just how popular the show is abroad until I was in New York. People came up to say how much they love it. We’ve also heard from fans in Australia, Canada, and the US eagerly anticipating new series.”
