The Environment Agency has announced plans to improve safety features at two weirs located in Somerset, as part of an ongoing effort to enhance access and reduce hazards for the public. The work will involve replacing steps at both Lovington Weir and Somerton Weir to ensure safer footing for visitors. Additionally, each site will receive a new handrail and an access ladder, designed to facilitate safer and easier access to the weirs.
These proposals were detailed in public notices published in the Western Gazette on Thursday, 10 September 2026. Local residents and other interested parties are invited to submit written representations regarding the proposed works within 30 days from the notice publication date.
