Environment Agency announces safety upgrades for Somerset weirs

The Environment Agency has revealed plans to improve safety features at weirs on two Somerset rivers. The proposed works include replacing steps at both Lovington Weir and Somerton Weir, alongside installing handrails and access ladders at each site to facilitate safer river access.

Details of the proposals were published in public notices by the Western Gazette on 10 September 2026. Members of the public wishing to comment on the plans can submit written representations within 30 days of the notice publication date.

Correspondence should be directed to the Environment Agency project manager via the email address [email protected].
