England Legend’s Son Secures Somerset Future with New Deal Until 2028

Archie Vaughan, the talented 19-year-old all-rounder and son of former England captain Michael Vaughan, has signed a new contract with Somerset, keeping him at the County Ground until the summer of 2028. This extension highlights the county’s confidence in the Sheffield-born emerging star, who made his debut for Somerset during the 2024 season.

Over the past two seasons, Vaughan has made an impressive impact, taking 40 wickets and scoring 1,094 runs across 35 List A and first-class matches. While primarily recognized as a batsman, his spin bowling ability came to the forefront in a dramatic victory over Surrey, where he claimed match figures of 11-140, contributing decisively in a nail-biting title race conclusion at Taunton.

Reflecting on his new deal, Vaughan expressed enthusiasm and a strong commitment to continuing his growth: “I’m really excited and it means a lot to know that the club have confidence in me. I hope I can reward their faith with winning performances on the field. I want to keep learning, improving, and taking my game to the next level. Becoming a genuine all-rounder is my goal, to make an impact every game.”

His batting highlights include a career-best unbeaten 109 in the One-Day Cup against Northamptonshire in August, marking his first century for Somerset.

Andy Hurry, Somerset’s director of cricket, praised Vaughan’s dedication and promising talent: “Archie has demonstrated significant potential alongside an outstanding attitude and work ethic. His hard work has earned him first-team opportunities, which he has embraced, showing his ability to influence matches with both bat and ball in various formats.”

Vaughan’s continued development at Somerset positions him as a key player for the county’s future ambitions.
