Emotional Farewell as Café Closes Ahead of Tropicana Project

The Bay Café, located on Weston-super-Mare’s iconic seafront, is preparing for its permanent closure next week and has displayed a heartfelt farewell letter in its window. The closure is to make way for the redevelopment of Tropicana, a project funded with £8.7 million from the government’s levelling up fund, scheduled for completion by March 2026. The 5,000-seater Tropicana events venue aims to revitalize the town and put it back on the map. Unfortunately, The Bay will close its doors on Monday, April 21, in order to clear space for the new venture.

The poignant letter acknowledges the three-year tenure of The Good Hub and expresses gratitude to the North Somerset Council for the opportunity to operate The Bay Café. The cafe owners express eagerness for the transformation of Tropicana into a center for arts, culture, and entertainment, and thank the council and their dedicated staff.

The letter also extends warm thanks to the loyal customers who have made The Bay their regular spot for coffee and meals, recognizing their support during challenging times. The farewell message announces the closure date and acknowledges the sister-venues of The Bay, The Clarence, and The Victorian. This comes in the wake of the recent closure of another popular eatery, Winston’s Fish Bar, after 20 years of operation.
