Emily Victoria’s harrowing story of enduring sexual abuse by her father from the age of two until she was 17 is now shared boldly in the documentary A Paedophile In My Family: Surviving Dad, recently released on Netflix following its 2023 Channel 4 broadcast.
Raised in a quiet Dorset village alongside her two brothers, Emily faced unimaginable trauma in her own home. It wasn’t until 2009, when she was a teenager, that she summoned the courage to report the abuse to the authorities. Her father was subsequently arrested and sentenced to 14 years in prison.
In a remarkable act of bravery, Emily waived her right to anonymity to highlight the warning signs that were missed and to challenge societal silence around child sexual abuse. Her story shines a light on the hidden suffering many endure and underscores the importance of early intervention.

Though her father refused to engage when Emily later reached out post-release, she remains open to the possibility of future dialogue while confronting the complex emotions of betrayal and abandonment. Emily admits the healing process is ongoing, sharing that the documentary helped her “release some of the shame” she carried for years, although she still experiences difficult days.
Now in her mid-30s and a mother herself, Emily dedicates her life to supporting survivors of sexual abuse and raising awareness about the urgent need for protection and intervention for vulnerable children. In early 2025, she partnered with the NSPCC at their Voices for Change event, emphasizing how essential immediate support is for at-risk youth.
She told Channel 4, “I focus on questioning why child sexual abuse goes unnoticed and how we can prevent it in the future. Through open conversation and by supporting organizations like the NSPCC, we can drive change and influence policies to protect children.”
Emily also engaged in a recent Power Summit discussion alongside founder Perry Power, continuing her mission to foster awareness and prevention.
