An electric vehicle collided with a wall on the first level of the Musgrove Park Hospital multi-storey car park in Taunton this morning, Friday, November 7. Emergency services were dispatched at approximately 11:15 a.m. following reports of smoke coming from the vehicle.
Although smoke was initially visible, fire crews confirmed there was no fire; the smoke was likely powder released from the vehicle’s airbags during the collision. A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service explained that three fire appliances responded to the incident to secure the scene and ensure safety.
Two individuals sustained injuries in the crash and were promptly taken to the hospital by hospital staff. The severity of their injuries remains undisclosed at this time. Fire crews made certain the electric vehicle was safe before clearing the scene.

The incident led to the temporary closure of the hospital car park, causing significant traffic delays around Musgrove Park Hospital. Patients were advised to consider alternative transportation methods for their appointments. Some visitors reported that the car park was full and recommended walking to the hospital due to heavy congestion.
Somerset NHS Foundation Trust notified patients about the closure and later confirmed the car park has since reopened.
