Electric Shower Catches Fire in Somerset Home, Two Suffer Smoke Inhalation

An electric shower caught fire while in use at a home in Movers Place, Street, Somerset, on the evening of Tuesday, May 12. The fire was reported to Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service at approximately 9 p.m.

Three fire appliances from Street, Glastonbury, and Somerton stations responded to the incident. Upon arrival, firefighters found the fire located in a first-floor en suite bathroom of a mid-terrace property.

The occupants evacuated safely before the fire crews isolated the electrics and extinguished the blaze using a hose reel jet. To ensure complete safety, crews used a thermal imaging camera to check for hotspots and employed a positive-pressure ventilation fan to clear smoke from the property.

The fire was fully under control by 10:30 p.m. After providing fire safety advice, the fire service handed responsibility back to the property owner.
