Two individuals were taken to hospital following a collision involving an electric vehicle and a wall in the multi-storey car park at Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton, earlier today (Friday, November 7). Emergency services responded to the incident at approximately 11:15 a.m.
The electric vehicle struck a wall on the first level of the car park, prompting initial reports of smoke. However, firefighters confirmed that no fire was present. According to a spokesperson from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, the “smoke” was likely dust released when the vehicle’s airbags deployed.
Hospital staff transported the two injured occupants to the hospital. Details regarding the severity of their injuries have not been disclosed.

Fire crews secured the vehicle before leaving the scene. Meanwhile, the car park closure caused significant delays and congestion around the hospital, with some vehicles turned away. Patients were advised to seek alternative transportation to their appointments during the closure.
A spokesperson from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service stated, “We were called at 11:06 after an electric vehicle collided with a wall on level one. Three appliances attended due to the reported smoke, which was most likely powder from the airbags. Two casualties were taken to hospital by hospital staff. Crews made the vehicle safe.”
Somerset NHS Foundation Trust issued warnings about the car park closure and encouraged patients to consider other transport options. The car park has since reopened.
