Elderly Man Assaulted in Chard Alleyway as Police Appeal for Witnesses

Police are urgently appealing for witnesses following a troubling assault on a man in his 70s in Chard, Somerset.

The incident occurred around 4pm on Monday, April 28, in an alleyway connecting Poundstretchers and Coral, near Essex Close car park. According to Avon and Somerset Police, the elderly victim was punched in the back of the head by a man described as a white male in his late 20s with short brown hair and short facial hair. The attack caused the victim to fall, resulting in significant injuries including a hand injury, bruises on his arms, elbow, and eye, as well as a cut eyebrow that required medical attention.

Police are particularly keen to speak with a young male cyclist who was seen riding through the alleyway at the time, as he may have witnessed the assault.
