Ed Sheeran’s Secret Stag Do at Butlin’s Minehead: A Wild Eighties Weekend

Ed Sheeran, the globally renowned singer-songwriter worth an estimated £370 million, has surprised fans by revealing one of his favorite holiday destinations: the budget-friendly Butlin’s resort in Minehead. Far from the glitz and glamour typically associated with celebrities, Sheeran’s fondness for Butlin’s highlights his down-to-earth nature.

The Thinking Out Loud hitmaker recently shared that one of his best holidays was an Eighties-themed stag do trip to Butlin’s Minehead last January. Disguised as Roy Wood from Wizzard, Sporting a big beard, long white hair, and sunglasses, Ed described the experience as being “off my nut” and declared the resort “f***ing awesome.”

Reflecting on the fun weekend, he said, “For my mate Doug’s stag, we went to Butlin’s. It was an Eighties-themed weekender, and we saw tribute bands Pearl Scam and Metal Militia. I never thought I’d go to Butlin’s, but once I was there, I thought, ‘I need to come here more often.’ It’s amazing.” Ed also expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming Nineties-themed weekend, featuring tribute acts for Queen and Oasis, set to take place soon.

Ed’s own stag do before marrying his wife Cherry saw a very different theme. He hosted a Wolf of Wall Street-inspired party aboard a small prop plane where he was force-fed shots, capturing the wild spirit of the film. “My mates all dressed up, and we flew from Stansted for 20 minutes just so we’d be ‘on a plane’. It was intense but memorable,” he told The 2 Johnnies podcast. Since then, he notes that stag dos have become more relaxed over time.

Married to Cherry since 2019, the couple shares two daughters, Lyra and Jupiter. Their early relationship moments are even depicted in the music video for Ed’s new single, “Camera,” from his recently released album, Play, which launched on September 12.

Looking ahead, Ed plans to tour extensively and is considering moving back to the UK to stay close to his family, despite a brief stint living in the US. His candid reflections on his holiday choices and personal life paint a picture of a superstar who cherishes simple joys and meaningful connections.
