While pleasant conditions are likely to tempt many riders to take longer journeys, the DVSA emphasises that checking the weather forecast is only part of thorough ride preparation.
The agency advises riders to “always dress for the ride, not just the weather,” underscoring the importance of wearing appropriate protective equipment even during high temperatures and clear skies. Protective gear, such as helmets, strong boots, gloves, and suitable clothing, is essential to help reduce injury in the event of a collision.
Highlighting Highway Code Rule 83, the DVSA reminds riders and passengers that wearing a securely fastened protective helmet meeting relevant regulations is mandatory. Moreover, the Highway Code recommends additional protective clothing to enhance safety.
