A serious collision involving three vehicles has resulted in two people being hospitalised, one with potentially life-changing injuries, on the A303 near Chard in Somerset this afternoon (Thursday, 30 July).
Emergency services were called to the scene at approximately 1.20pm. Both individuals were swiftly taken to hospital, and their families have been informed and are receiving ongoing updates from the police.
Fire crews from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene, where they confirmed that a person had been trapped as a result of the crash.

The A303 is currently closed in both directions between Buckland St Mary and the Howley turn-off. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and expect delays while the incident is being managed.
A man in his 60s has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving and causing serious injury through careless driving. As of the latest reports, he remains in police custody pending further investigation.
Avon and Somerset Police are seeking witnesses to the collision and any relevant dashcam footage to assist with their enquiries. The force issued a statement saying:
“We were called at around 1.20pm to the A303 north of Chard today (Thursday 30 July) following reports of a three-vehicle collision. If you were in the area and witnessed anything which could aid our enquiries, please call 101 and quote reference 5226213546.”
