Motorists are advised to prepare for significant closures on the M5 motorway tonight due to major resurfacing work. A key southbound section in Somerset between junction 23 (A39 Bridgwater North) and junction 24 (A38 Taunton Road, Bridgwater South) will be completely closed from 10pm on July 19 until 6am on July 20.
In addition, drivers heading further south will face overnight restrictions on the northbound M5 in Devon. The stretch between junction 27 (A361 Tiverton) and junction 25 (A358 Taunton) will be shut from 9pm to 6am, affecting travel plans in the region.
This latest closure marks the second phase of resurfacing work on the Somerset section. The first phase took place from June 14 to July 14. The current phase, continuing until July 30, impacts all three southbound lanes between junctions 23 and 24, including the exit slip road at junction 24.

Looking ahead, the third and final phase is set for August 2 to August 6, which will see northbound closures between the same junctions. National Highways has assured drivers that clearly signed diversion routes will be in place throughout all closures but cautions that schedules may change at short notice.
Drivers are encouraged to plan their journeys accordingly and stay updated on any changes to minimize disruption.
