Driver Mounts Pavement, Seriously Injures Pedestrian, and Flees Scene

On the evening of February 7, a 19-year-old man walking along Holbrook Lane was struck by a Honda Civic that mounted the pavement, causing him serious leg injuries. The driver, Lewis Hobbs, 32, of Ramsbury Walk, Trowbridge, did not stop to assist and instead fled the scene, leaving the injured victim by the roadside.

Hobbs appeared at Salisbury Crown Court on Thursday, October 23, where he pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He was sentenced to 27 months in prison, disqualified from driving for 35 months, and ordered to pay a £228 surcharge.

Despite the victim informing Hobbs of his injury and requesting emergency assistance, Hobbs chose to drive off. Wiltshire Police responded promptly, conducting an investigation that led to Hobbs handing himself in and being arrested. His damaged Honda Civic was seized for forensic analysis.

Police Constable Tom Richardson condemned Hobbs’s actions, highlighting the lack of compassion and responsibility. “Hobbs mounted the kerb and hit the pedestrian, then drove off after moving him off the road, leaving him alone with a severe injury,” Richardson said. “While drivers may make mistakes, what happens afterward shows true character. Hobbs’s behavior was shocking and showed no remorse. The custodial sentence reflects the gravity of his actions.”
