Driver Dies in Hospital Following A46 Crash; Man Arrested

A fatal collision on the A46 near Bath on 11 July has claimed the life of a driver, while a woman and a child in the same vehicle continue to receive hospital treatment. Avon and Somerset Police responded to the crash at 3:06 pm, involving a white Dacia and a black Range Rover near Upper Swainswick.

Tragically, the driver of the Dacia passed away in hospital the evening following the incident. The police have extended their condolences to the family, who are being supported by a specially trained family liaison officer.

The woman and child passengers from the Dacia sustained injuries that are not considered life-threatening and remain under medical care.

Authorities have arrested a man in his thirties in Wiltshire on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He was released on conditional police bail as investigations continue.

Emergency services temporarily closed the road to manage the response and carry out initial inquiries. The A46 has since reopened.

Police are urging anyone who witnessed the crash or who may have dashcam footage of a black Range Rover traveling westbound on the M4 or southbound on the A46 on the afternoon of 11 July to come forward.
