Driver dies in hospital after A46 crash as man arrested

Avon and Somerset Police continue to seek witnesses following a fatal collision on the A46 near Bath on 11 July. The crash involved a white Dacia and a black Range Rover near Upper Swainswick at approximately 3:06 pm.

All three occupants of the Dacia were hospitalized. Sadly, the driver passed away later that evening. A woman and a child, both passengers, remain in hospital with injuries described as not life-threatening. The driver’s family is receiving support from a specially trained family liaison officer.

Last night, a man in his thirties was arrested in Wiltshire on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He has since been released on conditional police bail as investigations continue.

The A46 was temporarily closed to allow emergency services to respond and for initial investigations, but has since reopened.

Police urge anyone who witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage of a black Range Rover traveling westbound on the M4 or southbound on the A46 on the afternoon of 11 July to come forward. Witnesses can contact Avon and Somerset Police by calling 101 and quoting reference number 5226192720.
