In a horrifying incident in Plymouth last year, a driver deliberately crashed into a pedestrian, inflicting life-changing injuries. The driver, Jordan Blackmore, believed that government agents were following him and aiming to harm him before his reckless actions led to a devastating collision.
Blackmore had been driving an Audi S3, which was parked when the victim was seen on nearby CCTV approaching the vehicle. As the victim walked back to his van, Blackmore reappeared and reversed at high speed, crushing the pedestrian against his own van. The victim suffered a broken tibia and underwent immediate surgery at Derriford Hospital, with the injuries described as life-changing. Blackmore fled the scene but later turned himself in and was arrested for causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He was subsequently charged with Section 18 grievous bodily harm (GBH) and pleaded guilty to wounding with intent to cause GBH.
During the trial, it was revealed that Blackmore’s erratic driving and confrontational behavior led to the terrifying collision. His claims of being pursued by government agents and his aggressive actions were clearly influenced by a state of paranoia induced by drug use. The victim, a self-employed bricklayer, faced extensive surgeries and a grim prognosis for his future mobility, affecting his livelihood and family life.

The impact on the victim’s partner and their unborn twins was equally profound, leading to financial strain and emotional distress. The entire family faced overwhelming challenges, from housing uncertainties to the psychological toll on the children, who were deeply affected by the events they witnessed.
Despite attempts to mitigate the severity of his actions, Blackmore received a heavy sentence, reflecting the severity of the trauma he inflicted. The judge recognized the profound impact on the victim and his family, attributing the collision to Blackmore’s prolonged drug use and subsequent psychotic state. The sentencing aimed to acknowledge the irreversible damage caused and to provide a sense of justice for the victim and his loved ones.
The investigating officer emphasized the egregious nature of Blackmore’s conduct and the irreversible harm suffered by the victim, expressing hope that the sentence would offer some solace to the afflicted family.
