Driver Arrested Following Serious Two-Vehicle Collision in Somerset

A driver has been arrested on multiple charges, including dangerous driving and taking a vehicle without consent, after a collision on the A358 Axminster Road in South Chard, Somerset. The crash, involving two vehicles, occurred at approximately 12:40 pm on Thursday, June 12, resulting in the closure of the road in both directions.

Emergency services rapidly responded to the scene and continue their investigation. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes as the road remains closed while enquiries proceed.

One individual involved in the collision was transported to hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.

Avon and Somerset Police confirmed the arrest of one person on suspicion of several offences, including dangerous driving, driving under the influence of drugs, unauthorized use of a vehicle, leaving the scene of an accident, possession of a Class B drug, and driving without insurance.

A police spokesperson stated: “We were called to a two-vehicle collision on the A358 Axminster Road, South Chard, at around 12:40 pm. A person has been arrested on suspicion of multiple offences including dangerous driving and driving whilst unfit through drugs. Another involved individual has been taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The road remains closed in both directions with diversions in place. We urge all road users to avoid the area as investigations continue.”
