A significant grass fire near a major road in Weston-super-Mare has led to prolonged road closures and an ongoing emergency response. Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue teams have been actively tackling the blaze adjacent to the A371 in Locking since early this morning.
Throughout the afternoon, numerous fire crews have remained on site, working to identify and extinguish hotspots while continuing to dampen the affected area to prevent further spread of the fire. The severity of the situation has necessitated the closure of the A371 from the Runway to Banwell Road for the foreseeable future, impacting traffic near the Locking Farm Industrial Estate.
Authorities have advised local residents and businesses to keep their windows and doors shut to minimise smoke ingress, ensuring safety and comfort amid the smoke-filled conditions. Avon Fire and Rescue Service has also requested that the public avoid the area to allow emergency personnel to carry out their work effectively.
