A significant fire completely destroyed a commercial building in Castle Cary over the weekend. The blaze broke out on Friday, October 10, and rapidly spread across multiple outbuildings, prompting a large-scale response.
Fire crews from Castle Cary, Wincanton, Martock, Shepton Mallet, Wells, Street, and Yeovil converged on the scene to tackle the inferno. Firefighters utilized four breathing apparatus sets, three hose reel jets, three main jets, two safety jets, and three thermal imaging cameras to bring the fire under control.
Somerton Fire Station provided an update on Facebook, explaining, “The fire initially involved a large fence, which then spread to a building and the surrounding outbuildings. Upon arrival, Nicky, Max, Paul, and Simmo were assigned to Sector One, focusing on halting the fire’s progression and attacking the main building. Tom was responsible for supplying water to the base pump for Sector One, utilizing resources from Yeovil’s water carrier.”
