Glastonbury Festival has introduced an exciting new addition this year: Dragon’s Tail, a vibrant and inviting space nestled in the southeast corner of Worthy Farm. Strategically located between the Unfairground and Shangri-La, this innovative area offers festival-goers a perfect retreat from the unpredictable British weather—whether seeking shade from the scorching sun or shelter from sudden downpours.
As daylight fades, Dragon’s Tail transforms into a serene nighttime haven, providing a tranquil spot to unwind amid the festival’s relentless energy. Central to the area is a stunning stained glass dragon sculpture, thoughtfully designed with built-in seating and a generous wing structure that offers ample shade during the day. The dragon’s elongated tail gracefully extends along the hillside, inviting visitors to relax and take in the atmosphere.
Just a short walk away lies the popular Wyvern’s Watch Bar, the go-to spot for refreshing drinks, enhancing the area’s appeal as a sociable and lively meeting point. This combination of art, comfort, and conviviality makes Dragon’s Tail a standout feature of this year’s festival.

Edgar Phillips, the talented artist behind the concept, crafted the “beautiful and useful” structure over an intense 11-week period. Following festival organizer Emily Eavis’s vision for a dedicated relaxation zone in the southeast, Phillips and his team dedicated countless hours to bring the project to life.
In his interview with SomersetLive, Phillips reflected on the creative journey: “It was a learning process with just 11 weeks to design, build, and assemble everything. I worked about 16-hour days during those eight intense weeks. It’s been a real team effort, and getting to create a space at Glastonbury is a true privilege.”
He added, “Dragon’s Tail is exactly what we hoped for—helping people slow down and chill out, whether escaping the heat of the day or finding peace at 4 a.m. during the festival’s wild moments.”
Dragon’s Tail is more than just a new festival area; it’s a thoughtfully designed sanctuary that enriches the Glastonbury experience by blending art, community, and comfort.
