Dorset Council announces latest planning applications for Sherborne, Dorchester, Gillingham and surrounding areas

Dorset Council has released a new batch of planning applications affecting several communities including Charlton Marshall, Sherborne, Tarrant Launceston, Piddlehinton, Dorchester, Dewlish and Gillingham. The public notice, dated 24 September 2026, sets a 21-day period for residents to submit their comments from the date of the advertisement, with allowances made for public holidays.

The notice highlights that some proposals do not align with the current adopted Development Plan and that certain applications impact Public Rights of Way. Individuals are advised to carefully examine each application’s documents to understand any specific designations and implications.

Detailed plans, statements and site maps can be accessed via the Dorset Council planning portal by entering the respective application reference numbers. These documents are also available for inspection in writing by contacting Dorset Council at County Hall, Colliton Park, Dorchester, Dorset, DT1 1XJ, citing the relevant application number.

The range of applications includes householder permissions for home alterations and extensions (P/HOU), full planning permissions for new developments (P/FUL), and listed building consents related to works affecting historically significant structures or areas (P/LBC).

Residents who may be affected or have concerns are encouraged to evaluate various factors such as highway safety, access and parking, design and heritage impact, landscape and ecology, drainage and flood risk, noise considerations, operating hours and any effects on public rights of way.

All comments submitted are placed on the public record and made available on the council’s website. Should a planning appeal arise, these representations will also be forwarded to the Planning Inspectorate. It is vital that views are submitted within the specified deadline, as there may not be another opportunity to comment during the appeal process.

Full details of the applications and public notices are available through the Dorset Council planning portal. Residents can also find the official public notice text for reference.
