Two dogs have tragically died after visiting Cowick Barton Playing Fields, a popular park in Exeter, Devon. Earlier reports indicated multiple animals fell ill after coming into contact with suspected poisoned food in the area.
In addition to the dogs, four foxes were also found dead, raising serious concerns among local residents and authorities. A warning sign placed at the park alerted pet owners about the presence of poisonous substances, urging caution.
The sign read: “1 dog dead, 2 dogs sick, 4 foxes dead. Reports of poisoned food in Barton Fields. This is illegal. If your dog or cat ingests poison, take to a vet ASAP to induce vomiting.”

Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed the fatalities and stated that investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident. The police are appealing to the public for any information that could help identify those responsible.
A police statement said: “We have received reports of deceased foxes found in Cowick Barton Playing Fields. Two dogs became unwell after being exercised in the area and sadly died. Enquiries are ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 50250208201.”
Pet owners are urged to remain vigilant and avoid allowing their animals to roam freely in the affected area until the matter is resolved.
