A dog was rescued after becoming stranded on a cliff ledge approximately 30 metres above Kilve Beach in Somerset. The incident prompted a swift response from fire crews and coastguard teams who arrived at the scene near Nether Stowey at 5.52pm on 23 August.
Firefighters from Taunton, Bridgwater, and Nether Stowey were deployed alongside the coastguard to assist in retrieving the distressed animal. The rescue operation involved careful assessments and safety measures to ensure the welfare of both the dog and the rescuers.
Utilising a safety line system and a rescue bag, the Specialist Technical Rescue Team from Bridgwater managed to bring the dog safely back to solid ground. The animal was unharmed and was soon reunited with its ‘very worried’ owner.

A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service commented: “The initial crews from Nether Stowey and Taunton, together with the Coastguard, secured the area and ensured safety before our Specialist Technical Rescue Team from Bridgwater conducted the recovery using a safety line system and rescue bag. The operation was controlled and concluded by 8pm following continuous safety risk assessments.”
