Visitors typically start their journey at the National Trust car park at Sand Bay, which is located beyond Weston’s renowned beaches.

Sand Point and Middle Hope Beaches also served as a filming location for ITV’s acclaimed series ‘Sanditon’, adding to their allure. The captivating coastal surroundings perfectly complemented the period drama set in Jane Austen’s world.

Driving through Weston and the villages of Kewstoke and Norton leads to a secluded road behind Sand Bay’s dunes. Following this route takes you near the lofty elevation of Sand Point, often graced by the welcoming sight of an ice cream van at the National Trust car park.

Starting from this point, trails ascend the hillside, revealing the expansive downland. A short distance inland lies a medieval priory, offering another intriguing stop along the way.

Continuing westward leads to the farthest reaches of Sand Point, offering breathtaking views across the Bristol Channel to North Devon, Cardiff, the Brecon Beacons, and the Severn bridges.

Further along, beyond fields often dotted with sheep, lies Middle Hope beach. This secluded spot, marked only by modest steps carved into the bank, boasts inviting sandy stretches and the opportunity for a delightful swim during low tide. With rock formations breaking the waves, swimmers are treated to safe, shallow waters and picturesque scenes that include Clevedon and Portishead in the backdrop.

This area was thought to be reminiscent of Cornwall or the Gower on a sunny summer’s day, making it an ideal choice for the filming of the TV series Sanditon, as noted by Bristol Live’s Triston Cork.
