Noah Connell, a courageous nine-year-old boy living with Pierre Robin Sequence and born with part of his spine missing, has defied expectations by taking his first steps after meeting his Spider-Man hero. Noah, who typically relies on a wheelchair for mobility, was inspired during the filming of a Spider-Man movie in Glasgow last year when he met the actor playing the superhero.
Accompanied by his family, Noah recently attended the star-studded premiere of the blockbuster Spider-Man film in London. Dressed in Spider-Man clothing and carrying a figure of his hero, Noah was thrilled to be at the event and excited to see the movie on the big screen.
His mother, Jade Connell, shared how the meeting with Spider-Man gave Noah the strength to achieve a milestone they once feared might never happen. “We always said it was Spider-Man who gave him the strength to do it, so we were ecstatic when we got tickets to go to the premiere in London last night,” she said. Jade described how seeing the stars arrive and meeting Tom Holland, the actor playing Spider-Man, was an unforgettable experience for Noah. He was eager to ask Tom how it feels to inspire children to be superheroes.

The journey to the premiere was not without its challenges. Initially, the family struggled to secure disability access tickets through normal channels. In a last-minute effort, Jade entered a radio competition but encountered technical issues at a crucial moment. Noah was disappointed but remained hopeful, using his iPad to communicate his feelings. Thankfully, a cancellation in the disability section allowed the family to obtain tickets, as well as train travel arrangements.
Since his remarkable progress, Noah has been recognised as a Child of Courage at the Pride of Scotland Awards, having surpassed early medical predictions regarding his survival and mobility. His mother reflected on the emotional impact of his progress and the difficulty of facing ongoing negativity. “He has been taking strides ever since then and he’s able to take a good few steps himself now,” she remarked. “Noah has totally defied it all and he fights every day.”
