A Devon father’s life was forever changed after a harrowing motorcycle accident caused by a pothole left him in critical condition. Now, he and his wife are organizing the Devon Festival of Heroes, a superhero-themed family fun day, to express their gratitude to the emergency services that saved his life.
The event is set to take place at the CCA Fields in Cullompton on Sunday, May 18, and aims to raise funds for the Devon Air Ambulance (DAA). It marks one year since Alex was injured in the near-fatal accident during his commute. The accident left him with a shattered collarbone, shoulder blade, ten broken ribs, a collapsed lung, and three blood clots, and he remained comatose for five weeks.
The festival will feature a variety of entertainment, including fairground attractions, petting zoos, dog and duck herding displays, a dog show, performances by local artists, historic WWII truck displays, and a children’s baking contest. The family fun day is a way of giving back to the heroes who played a crucial role in Alex’s recovery.

Louise, Alex’s wife, expressed her deep gratitude for the medical professionals and emergency services who saved Alex’s life. She emphasized the importance of supporting not just the patients but also their families during the recovery process. Her hope is that the event will serve as a way to say thank you to those who provided exceptional care during their time of need.
In addition to fun and games, the festival also aims to raise awareness and support for the Devon Air Ambulance. Stallholders interested in joining the event can secure a pitch for a modest fee, with all proceeds going towards the fundraising initiative.
