Detailed plans have been unveiled for a significant new development in Melksham, featuring 210 homes and a 70-bed care home. This follows Hallam Land Management’s successful planning appeal in November 2023, which overturned Wiltshire Council’s previous objections and granted permission for the project on land at Western Way.
The development is strategically located on the southern edge of Melksham, positioned north of Bowerhill Industrial Estate and adjacent to the proposed new primary school site. Barratt Developments PLC has now submitted comprehensive plans outlining the housing layout, landscaping, open spaces, and drainage systems.
The residential phase will be delivered by Barratt and David Wilson Homes, with 30% of the properties designated as affordable housing. This includes a mix of social rent, shared ownership, and first homes, ensuring a diverse community. The affordable units will be integrated throughout the development for inclusive neighbourhood living. The homes will vary in height, featuring two, two-and-a-half, and three-storey designs.

The development emphasizes green infrastructure, incorporating trees, hedgerows, wildflower meadows, fruit tree plantings, children’s play areas, and attenuation basins to support sustainable drainage. However, detailed plans for the care home are not included in this submission and will be handled in a separate application.
A final planning decision is anticipated by December 11, marking a key milestone for this transformative project in Melksham.
