Detailed Plans Submitted for 210 Homes and Care Home on Town’s Southern Edge

Detailed plans have been submitted for the construction of 210 homes and a 70-bed care home in Melksham, following a successful planning appeal.

In November 2023, Hallam Land Management secured approval from Wiltshire Council to develop this major project on land at Western Way, situated on the southern edge of Melksham, just north of Bowerhill Industrial Estate and west of the proposed primary school.

Barratt Developments PLC has unveiled comprehensive proposals covering the housing portion of the development, including landscaping, open spaces, and drainage systems. The residential project will be delivered jointly by Barratt and David Wilson Homes.

Notably, 30% of the homes will be affordable, offering a combination of social rent, shared ownership, and first homes opportunities, all integrated throughout the development to promote inclusive community living. The homes will vary in height, ranging from two to three storeys to maintain architectural variety.

The plans emphasize green infrastructure, featuring abundant trees, hedgerows, vegetated boundaries, wildflower meadows, fruit trees, children’s play areas, and attenuation basins designed to support sustainable drainage and reduce flood risk.

Details for the accompanying 70-bed care home will be submitted in a separate planning application. A final decision on the housing development application is anticipated by December 11.
