More than 15 jobs have been preserved as the historic Somerset-based engineering firm, SFM Technology Ltd, renowned for its fruit harvesting machinery and favored by the Royal Family, has been saved from financial collapse. Once facing administration due to cash flow challenges, the company has been acquired by Bramley Precision Aerospace Ltd, which took ownership of its assets, goodwill, and intellectual property.
Founded in 1985 as Somerset Fruit Machinery, the company specialized in designing and manufacturing bespoke fruit harvesting equipment for apple and blackcurrant growers. Over four decades, SFM built a prestigious reputation for quality and innovation, serving customers across the UK and internationally. In 2012, the firm was awarded a Royal Warrant for supplying fruit harvesting machinery to the Royal Household, highlighting its excellence and trusted status.
Beyond agriculture, SFM expanded into aerospace and advanced manufacturing sectors, leveraging expertise in CAD design, CNC machining, laser and waterjet cutting, welding, fabrication, 3D printing, and complex assembly processes. This diversification attracted clients within national and international aerospace, defense, and specialist engineering industries.
