Spring has arrived at Dyrham Park, where a stunning display of over 20,000 tulips has turned the gardens into a vibrant and enchanting sight. The National Trust site, near Bath, is hosting a two-week event called ‘tulip mania’ from April 22 to May 5, showcasing the rich history and captivating beauty of these Dutch blooms.
The event pays homage to Dyrham’s historical connection to the Netherlands, with the estate being transformed into a floral paradise. Visitors can wander through long beds of vividly colored tulips lining the Avenue and explore a pear orchard where tulips shine among tall grasses, creating a magical ambiance.
This year’s tulip varieties, with names such as ‘Spryng Break’, ‘Black Parrot’, ‘Ice Cream’, ‘Kansas Proud’, and ‘Queen of the Night’, are as imaginative as they are colorful. Additionally, Dyrham Park will introduce its bespoke tulip, developed with Blue Diamond, inspired by a lily-leafed lamp bracket from the house. The estate will also feature tulip displays, a timeline showcasing the flower’s journey, and a monochrome display of black and white tulips in the parterre garden.

Inside the house, visitors can marvel at hundreds of fresh and handmade fabric tulips exhibited in blue and white vases, offering a nod to the Dutch influence seen in 17th-century paintings. Talks and guided walks will provide insights into the Dutch connections of the collection, while the plant fayre at the Visitor Reception from April 24 to 27 will offer blooms and gardening delights for guests.
Assistant head gardener Kate Lock expressed her excitement about the event, highlighting the magical experience of witnessing the stunning tulip displays and the opportunity to deepen one’s knowledge of tulips through talks and art. Visitors can also take home tulip-themed mementos from the shop, ensuring a lasting memory of their day at Dyrham Park.
Located near Bath and Bristol, the site is open daily from 10am to 5pm, offering a wonderful opportunity to immerse in the beauty of tulips and explore the rich history of Dyrham Park.
