Dangerous Duo Spark High-Speed M4 Chase, Assault Officer with Laser and Projectiles

Two men have been sentenced following a perilous high-speed chase on the M4, during which a high-powered lamp was deliberately shone into the eyes of pursuing police officers, and missiles were hurled from their vehicle.

In the early hours of December 22, 2024, at around 1am, Jordan Jones, 26, from Cormorant Way in Dyffryn, southeast Wales, was spotted driving a grey Vauxhall Astra westbound near junction 18 of the M4. Jones was speeding, disqualified from driving, and uninsured.

When officers signalled for him to stop, Jones refused and initiated a dangerous pursuit reaching speeds up to 120mph. He recklessly maneuvered his vehicle toward police cars multiple times, nearly causing serious collisions.

Jones’s passenger, 23-year-old Lloyd Davis of Bedwas, South Wales, aggressively shone a powerful high-intensity lamp directly into the eyes of PC Hobbs, the lead officer, severely impairing his vision. Meanwhile, Davis also threw missiles from the moving vehicle, escalating the danger.

The chase ended near junction 23 at Magor when Jones’s car suffered an engine failure. Both men were immediately arrested.

At Newport Crown Court on August 26, Jones pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving without insurance, and driving while disqualified. He was sentenced to 16 months in prison and disqualified from driving for over four years.

Davis was convicted of causing danger to others, aiding dangerous driving, and obstructing a police officer. Additionally, he received a separate sentence of three years and nine months for unrelated drug offences. His total imprisonment term is nine months plus the drug-related sentences.

PC Hobbs described the incident as “one of the most dangerous experiences” of his career. He said, “Having a high-powered light shone directly into my eyes, heating my face, while pursuing a fleeing vehicle was extremely challenging. Thanks to my training and teamwork, we safely ended the pursuit and arrested both men.”

The officer emphasized that the sentences reflect the severe risk both men posed to public safety and serve as a strong warning against reckless behaviour on the roads.
