Firefighters from multiple stations fought a significant fire near the M5 for nearly eight hours on Friday, May 2. The fire, visible from junction 23 of the M5 near Bridgwater, prompted a flurry of calls to the fire service around 10:49 am. Responding crews from Bridgwater, Burnham-on-Sea, Street, Cheddar, and Somerton utilized a water bowser, wildfire pump, and multiple fire pumping appliances to contain and extinguish the blaze.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue reported that the fire affected a 200m x 15m area, encompassing tree scrub and hay bales within the TA7 postcode. Three hose reel jets, two attack jets, a light portable pump, and wildfire pumping capability were employed in the firefighting efforts. The fire was successfully extinguished by 6:41 pm, and there were no reports of injuries.
The fire service emphasized the swift response to the multiple calls and the use of specialized equipment to combat the fire effectively.
